Axiom A-1400-8 Power Amplifier
Posted by admin in Amplifiers on April 7, 2010

They are one of the only large speaker manufacturers left that design and build speakers right here in Canada. Axiom Audio is a top-tier, truly Canadian speaker manufacturer. Most of the other “Canadian” companies only design their speakers here, but manufacture them overseas. We have always been fond of Axiom because the performance and quality of their products simply live up to our best expectations. For nearly 30 years Axiom manufactured speakers only. So naturally, when we first learned that Axiom engineers were designing the company’s first power amplifier some 18 months ago, our interest was sparked. However for a long time, we were sworn to secrecy and couldn’t reveal this news until a few months back
The A1400-8 is a digital amplifier that produces 1400 watts of ultra-clean power. Axiom claims that its digital design is so efficient that the die-cast aluminum amp actually gets cooler the louder you run it – a nice change from traditional class A/B amplifiers. The petite Axiom amplifier is only 18 inches wide, 17 and one-half inches deep, and slightly less than 4 inches high. The 8-channel amp will put out 1,400 watts of continuous power. It is very efficient, so it is possible to get this power output from a single 15-amp wall plug. The real breakthrough with this amplifier though is that each channel can pass the entire output of the power supply without clipping. Previously, amplifiers would go into clipping when the amplifier reached the limits of the output devices for each channel. Output device clipping, even for very short transients, translates into a big loss of performance. This performance loss can occur at surprisingly moderate volume levels depending on the dynamics of the source material. Beyond the 1400-watt power output capability of the power supply there is also a large amount of capacitance (140,000 microfarads) to accommodate peaks well above 1,400 watts. This allows the continuous output per channel to not be limited by the amp module but rather the total power of all channels up to the output of the power supply. The standard rating in the industry is one channel driven at full power and the other 6 channels at 1/8 power.

you are a guitarist that is lacking in the band mates department and looking for a way to practice by yourself, Boss has introduced a new gadget for you. The device is called the eBand JS-8 and is a music player specifically for the guitarist. The device has built-in stereo speakers and offers playback of music, solos, riffs and other content that the guitarist can play along with. Music can be loaded onto the device from normal USB sticks and SD cards. Software is also included for importing CD tracks to the device. Boss loads the eBand with COSM preamp technology providing BOSS-quality guitar effects derived from the BOSS GT-10. Over 100 preset guitar sounds are included form every music genre. The device also has a recording function so players can record sessions.

Pioneer Elite SC-25TXH and SC-27 receivers

Pioneer’s back into its groove not with another GPS
navigation system for vehicles or DVD/Blu-ray player, but this time round they aim to raise the bar (and seem to have done so successfully by the time you reach the end of the post) with their new range of high powered A/V receivers, where the quartet of these are targeted to enhance clarity, detail and dynamic “quick response” from uncompressed Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks that can be found in Blu-ray Disc entertainment. For instance, the all-new Pioneer Elite SC-25 and SC-27 A/V Receivers do feature a Direct Energy HD Class D amplifier that boasts ICEPower technology to ensure unprecedented reproduction of high resolution multi-channel, stereo as well as compressed audio and provide premium home entertainment that would even fool some into thinking that they’re at a movie theater. As for the Elite SC-27, this model will leverage the full advantages of this emerging amplification technology, as it holds the position of being the industry’s first Class D amp design to achieve THX Ultra Plus and AIR Studio monitor certifications.
Entertainment purists will definitely be more pleased than punch to find out that the SC-25 and SC-27 utilize Burr-Brown analog to digital converters (ADC) and renowned Wolfson digital to analog converters (DAC), working in tandem to maintain high resolution performance throughout the entire digital signal processing chain from input to output. DAC performance is further brought to another level with the SC-27 as it boasts a professional-grade Burr-Brown 192kHz / 24-Bit sampling rate converter (SRC) for ultra-wide dynamic range and advanced jitter reduction. Guess all of your recently purchased Michael Jackson records are going to sound even better on this, just make sure you have a well defined room to maximize the effect of the audio output.
The other two models would be the Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH and VSX-23TXH that are lower end and yet pack a punch with its Direct Energy Class A/B amplification, integrated
video signal conversion, 1080p video scaling and an abundance of connectivity solutions for current and new high definition as well as standard definition entertainment sources. The Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH and VSX-23TXH will begin shipping sometime from this month onwards for $700 and $900, respectively, while the Pioneer Elite SC-25TXH and SC-27 will ship out next month for $1,700 and $2,000, respectively
