Although the company claims the rig to be the world’s first waterproof housing for Micro Four Thirds snappers, we beg to differ. Earlier, we reported that German company 10bar had developed similar contraptions for Panasonic’s Micro Four Thirds Lumix DMC-GF1. That said, this is the first official underwater accessory made by Olympus for the new format. The press release states the PT-EP01 is 47 percent smaller and lighter than conventional housings made for dSLRs, and is able to dive to depths of 40m. The lens barrel can accommodate either the 14-45mm kit or the new 9-18mm wide-angle optics. The Olympus casing also supports the UFL-2 dedicated underwater flash unit which offers wireless flash control.
